About the festival

Today, the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival is the world's largest film festival dedicated to short films. In term of audience and professional presence, it is the second largest film festival in France after Cannes.
The festival is at the heart of many activities and missions conducted all year long by the collective Sauve qui peut le court métrage. The association employs 18 permanents, all based in Auvergne, where a whole dynamic around cinema has been created.

The 2020 edition recorded more than 172,566 entries and welcomed more than 3,600 professionals.

Rules

  • May compete films completed after October 1st, 2019.
  • Films of 40 minutes or less are eligible.
  • Any type of film (fiction, animation, documentary, experimental) can be submitted to the selection committee.
  • Industrial or commercial films are not accepted.

Participants must enter their films via the online submission website www.shortfilmdepot.com
The following material must be attached to the online submission:

  • 1 still from the film (either colour or black and white depending on the film – no poster, no pictures of film set or crew), which can be used in any publication;
  • 1 photo of the director(s);
  • 1 list/transcript of the dialogue in the original version and a French or an English translation;
  • 1 uploaded video file of the film.

Le festival du court métrage de Clermont-Ferrand, qui accompagne depuis plus de 40 ans l’émergence du cinéma français et international, s’associe à YouTube pour la création d’un prix du court métrage de fiction issu du web. Ce prix sera remis dans le cadre de la section Pop-Up, qui mettra en avant 5 fictions françaises déjà disponibles sur la plateforme, et seront visibles en ligne sur le site du festival lors de sa prochaine édition qui se tiendra du 28 janvier au 5 février 2022. La section Pop-Up est pensée comme une nouvelle fenêtre sur le court venue du web, dans la continuité des actions menées par le festival depuis plusieurs années en direction ou en collaboration avec les créateurs d’Internet. Pop-Up est donc une nouvelle étape dans la volonté du festival de Clermont-Ferrand de créer une passerelle entre cette création numérique émergente et les festivals de cinéma.
